What can I expect during a facial?

Facials are part massage and part skin care, making them the ultimate in healthy indulgence.

First, you’ll receive a professional consultation and skin analysis to identify any problem areas that need to be focused on. Your skincare specialist will begin by cleansing your skin in a relaxing, massaging motion. After the initial cleansing, you’ll receive an additional deep cleansing (exfoliating scrub or enzyme peel), followed by extractions, if needed. Next you receive a massage of your neck and shoulders, relax and let your stresses melt away. Now your skin is ready, a custom mask designed for your specific skin type—oily, normal, dry, sensitive—will be applied. Steam therapy and hot towels are often used along with our esthestic speciality equipment for better results. After the mask works it’s magic, it will be removed and toner, speciality serums and sunscreen will be applied to aid in the treatment and to protect your new skin.  Not only will you look great, but also you will feel even better!

Will I break out after a facial/peel?

Sometimes. It is important to know that if you do break out after receiving a facial, it is not the facial that actually caused the breakout. The sebum (oil) was already there under the surface of your skin but after exfoliating your skin during the facial, it is possible to have the bacteria come to the surface quicker. This doesn’t usually happen, but it can. This is why if you are planning on getting a facial for a special event it is best to come in 10 days before the day of the event as this will ensure that your skin will be at its absolute best on your special day.

***PEEL: After treatment advisement

  • Avoid harsh cleansers (products containing resurfacing products) or washcloths.

  • Do not have any other facial treatment for at least one week after the procedure.

  • Avoid vigorous activity, swimming and hot showers (especially in the first 24hrs following).

What is a Chemical Peel?

Peels exfoliate the outer damaged layers of the skin to expose healthier skin. Chemical peels can help correct skin imperfections such as acne, wrinkles, pigmentation, and redness caused by rosacea.

What are the benefits of a Chemical Peel?

A chemical peel can restore a more youthful appearance to wrinkled, unevenly pigmented, sun-damaged, or blotchy skin. Chemical peels are helpful to reduce and control acne or milia cysts and reduce the risk of acne scarring. They also help with mild acne scars, reduce pore size and increase skin smoothness, natural glow and radiance.  Chemical peels can enhance the appearance of facial and other skin on men and women of all ages.

Does a Chemical Peel hurt?

The client can expect a tingling feeling or tightening of the skin, but it should not cause extreme discomfort.

**RESURFACING COMBO or JESSNER PLUS PEEL: You may experience a warming sensation in the skin.

How much peeling can I expect from a Chemical Peel?

Every person is different. Peeling usually occurs 24 – 72 hours after the peel treatment has been performed. Most just experience only a light shedding of the skin. Picking at treated areas greatly increases risk of infection. It is also normal to achieve no peeling or limited peeling depending on the skin and the type of peel you have.

**RESURFACING COMBO or JESSNER PLUS PEEL: peeling and redness, if any, may last for three to five days.  Do not pick or pull your skin as scarring may result.

What are the contraindications of a Chemical Peel?

You should not have a chemical peel if you have used Accutane in the last year, are on blood thinners, used Retin-A in the last 48 hours, or recently waxed. If you are presently tanning, you will need to stop for 48 hours prior to the peel and it is not recommended to continue tanning post peel. Tanning rapidly ages the skin and causes hyper pigmentation.

**RESURFACING COMBO or JESSNER PLUS PEEL : AVOID THE FOLLOWING 3 days prior to treatment

  • Avoid electrolysis, waxing, depilatory creams and laser hair removal.

  • Stop using any exfoliating products that may be drying or irritating.

  • Stop using Retinoids such as Retin-A, Differin, Renova, Tazorac.

  • Stop using products containing Salicylic Acid and Alpha Hydroxy Acids, Retinol or Benzoyl Peroxide.

What type of Chemical Peel is best for my skin?

Everyone’s skin is different and everyone has different needs as to what they would like to accomplish with their skin. We can discuss your skin care goals during the initial consultation to decide what would be the best peel to improve your skin. We will provide a free skin care consultation to discuss what your needs are.

Should I be wearing sunscreen on a daily basis?

The answer is “YES!” You should be wearing a sunscreen everyday, no matter what the season or weather. Apply on your face and hands and if your body is going to be exposed to the sun put it all over. Stay out of the tanning beds! Tanning beds expose you to more UV rays than the actual sun. We also have this misconception that if we are not the typical sun worshiper, we are safe. WRONG; 78% of our sun exposure is done while we are driving in the car and just walking outside. 90% of the aging your skin experiences is the direct result of your sun exposure.  We have 4 sunblocks from our Vivier line of skincare : Daily Moisturizer SPF 15, Sunscreen Lotion SPF 30, Triple Protection Moisturizer SPF 30 and Sun Protection Sunblock SPF 45.  All great products for preventing premature aging caused by sun exposure.

My skin is very thin. Why would I want to peel? Wouldn’t that make my skin thinner?

If your skin is dry and thin, often there is a buildup of dead cells that actually keeps your home care products from penetrating. Having a Chemical Peel treatment will remove the surface buildup, hydrate the skin and give it a more plump, “thicker” appearance. The use of our Vivier Skincare products will help build the collagen in your skin, thus making it stronger and more durable.
